Sierra Vista. AZ 12/05/14. The Sierra Vista City Council recently added new technology to its meetings, giving all Internet-enabled viewers the opportunity to watch council meetings live online through the City’s website.
Along with the new format, residents can access past meeting videos alongside a meeting index with embedded links that allow viewers to jump to topics of interest.
The technology, provided through Swagit Productions, brings live council meetings and work sessions to a larger audience.
“We’ve used our government access channel, Channel 12 on Cox Cable, for years to broadcast council meetings live, and rebroadcast them later in the week,” says Assistant City Manager Mary Jacobs. “With today’s new television viewing choices, from satellite subscriptions to on-demand programming, we realized that we could better serve our residents by providing another live broadcast service through a different media.”
Channel 12 can be accessed online from the City’s website, www.SierraVistaAZ.gov. Click on “Channel 12” in the navigation bar near the top of any page to be taken to Channel 12 Online. Live meetings in progress will appear in the “Live” window, while past meetings can be viewed by clicking on the “City Council” tab. You can use the search field under the City Council tab to find and view specific topics.
“The Council is excited to add yet another opportunity for our residents to be more actively engaged in their local government,” says Sierra Vista Mayor Rick Mueller. “We hope to see the viewership of Council meetings increase over time with this new technology.”
The next City Council work session will be held on December 9 at 3:00 p.m., and the next Council meeting will be held on December 11, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Both will be broadcast live on Channel 12 television on Cox Cable, and on Channel 12 Online.
